Am I being thick or does the iPad not get the location based reminders? I know I saw it active in an earlier beta but now on the gm I only get the option to remind by day, not by location?

Is this just for the phones?

I can see from both of your sigs that you have the WiFi only version of the iPad, assuming these are the ones you tested iOS 5 beta on, i'd say thats the problem.

I think you're going to need the 3g version for this one, sorry.

Also, only the 3g version of the iPad has a GPS (A-GPS to be specific).

False. 16gb CDMA iPad 2. I have the GM installed, and there's no option for geofencing, nor was there for any previous betas.

Well I had it on my iPod Touch 4 a few betas ago and it's gone on there too. It works by location witch can be found by wifi. I have actually used it on my iPod to remind me to get my Xbox game from a friend and when I walked in his house and it started beeping in my pocket. So I don't know why it matters.

IPad 2 GSM here as well as 3GS. I haven't seen the option to add location to reminders since beta 2 on my devices. I have both Exchange and iCloud email accounts but I have tried removing them and still no option for geofencing.

Probably. Apple needs 4S-only features to encourage people to upgrade.

I wouldn't think so. They announced that feature back at WWDC when they first unveiled iOS 5. I'd imagine it should be a part of that and not iPhone 4S specific.

Either way, I don't have the location stuff enabled on my iPhone 4 or my iPad 2. It's a bummer, I was really looking forward to trying it out.

Me too. However I noticed also the Reader is not working in Safari. I cannot see the button in the address bar...
I also have the same issue with Locations in Reminders....

It's available on my iPhone 4, not on the 3gs. My iPad is wifi only so no point trying. I guess it's because the GPS hardware is different, perhaps it's more of a battery drain on the 3gs + iPad, so they don't want to leave it running all the time? (Running GPS apps on the 3gs DID kill the battery, so this could be it.. not sure on the iPad though.)

Found the problem. The Reminders App doesn't like location based tasks and Exchange.

I have my works Exchange account setup on my phone and Reminders was set to sync with it. I went into my mail settings and turned off the reminders sync. Went back into the reminders app and voila, location based tasks are enabled in my iPhone 4

[edit]- I tried it on my iPad, and still no dice. I assume that's because I have the wifi version. I'd imagine those with 3G iPads, should be able to get location aware tasks to work once they stop reminders from syncing with an exchange account.

Tried with my iPad 2 3G and still no dice :-(. Deleted completely my exchange accounts, and nothing happened.

I have the same issue.
Works with my iPhone4 if I turn off Exchange sync.

I have been waiting for the iPhone to sync tasks with my Exchange account so I really don't care about this feature.
I could always turn it on if I need it.

But no go with my Verizone iPad2. Even after turning off Exchange sync.

One question, how come my iPhone4 and iPad2 reminder list don't match/sync?

That's a feature of iCloud I believe. You'd have to have iCloud setup on both your iPhone and iPad to sync up reminders.

I haven't tried it yet, as I remember all too well the MobileMe launch a few years ago. This time around I'm waiting to until I hear/read good reviews about iCloud before I migrate my stuff from MobileMe.

i just downloaded the iOS 5 GM for my iPad 2 and I noticed the same thing, this is my favorite feature of iOS 5! It's not included though, dammit!

----------

This is the one feature I want it iOS 5, if it's an iPhone 4s feature only, I'll be highly pissed! The location based reminders is the coolest thing about iOS 5 and if I have to, I'll jailbreak my phone to get this!

Location reminders don't work on my iPhone 4, on which I have just loaded the iOS 5 beta, but it DOES work on two of my friends' iPhone 4's with the same beta version of iOS 5. So there must be a setting which triggers it but I can't figure it out. (I do have Location Services turned on.)

Location Reminders Working Now

I got the Reminders Location feature to work by rebooting. (But there are still some other features that work on my friends' OS 5 but don't work on mine. May have to wait for the final version next week and see if they work then.)

On what device and what release of ios? Can't get ipad 2 3G/64g with the GM to do locatin reminders at all - tried deleting exchange servers.

Location Service

As mentioned earlier I was able to get it turned on only after turning off the exchange syncing. The one question I have is, has anyone figured out how to add an address that is not in your address book? Basically it seems that you can only use reminders for address you have instead of saving my grocery store's info I was just hoping to google the address when I arrived there it would tell me my shopping list.

anyone had any luck?

I suggested this when the beta came out. Needs to work like google maps. I want to be able to say remind me when I get to the grocery store, not have to pull up maps, search for the store, add to the address book, then go back to reminders.

I am also pretty sure location based reminders used to work on my iPad 2 3G.

Don't recall on the original iPad but I know the 3GS was initially enabled, didn't work, and was eventually removed.

This could be the same with iPad. I'm unsure.
