They did say in the summer that iOS 6 would be introduced in fall. Do you think they will release it Sep.12, the day of the iPhone 5 unveil? It seems logical, just seeing if anyone has heard rumors about it?

Yes, that is when the GM is released.

No, it will probably release the day the iPhone is available. They usually give developers two weeks after the announcement to get their apps ready before Apple releases the new iOS to the public.
