I've held off upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS 7 due to the widespread reports of performance problems, laggy typing, and so on.

Has anyone here updated an iPad 2 to 7.0.2? I'm curious if 7.0.2 has any performance optimizations in addition to the listed fixes.

I wouldn't keep your hopes up. I have an iPad 1 and it can't even do iOS 6. I finally jailbroke iOS 5 on it so I could delete the extra languages for keyboard and such, it helped a bit, less lag with the keyboard, but, iOS 5 is just a bit too much for it...worked better w/iOS 3 & 4, but, I kept iOS 5 for iCloud features and some apps require iOS 5 or newer (6 nowadays).

Wait for 7.0.3 or 7.1 since this update only fixes immediate concerns on security (and greeks )
