Ok, this is a tricky one... and hard to explain! Have been looking for a solution all day long. Sorry for the long text.

A friend of mine wanted to migrate from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 4S. He intended to backup to iTunes, because he has over 12 GB of pictures, so iCloud is a no-go.

When he plugged the old phone into his iTunes, he accepted the offer to update to iOS 7. Because his Mac is almost full, the phone backup did not go though before the update.

The phone got updated and when it came back up, the setup assistant kicked in and after the Welcome screen, it is only giving the choice to restore from iCloud, from iTunes or setup as new phone. There's no way to bypass this screen, although the backup was successfully restored. This we know, because iPhoto shows the old pictures are in there and from iTunes, you can even see the old wallpaper on the iPhone Apps tab.

We freed some space on the Mac and manually created a backup. We then restored this backup on the new iPhone and the exact same thing happens. The phone restarts after the restore, and then asks to restore from iCloud or from iTunes or to setup as new.

So if the restore is already done, how do we go past this three options, since none of them is actually required??

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
