So apple claims 8.1.1 to have better performance on iPad 2 and iPhone 4s, which are both devices older than the 3rd generation iPad i currently have. But my iPad is still a pretty old device so I'm still worried if upgrading will make it go slower. When i first upgraded to iOS 7.0, my iPad got very slow until the awesome 7.1.1 which made my iPad usable again.

Has anyone tried 8.1.1 on an iPad 3 yet? Will it be as fast as 7.1.1?

I'm also curious to know this, I sold my ipad 3rd gen to my older brother and he asked me if it's a good idea to upgrade or not.

I have installed it on my iPad3.
It's a little better than 8.1 but that's not perfect ...
There are lags when closing apps.

Just updated my iPad 3 to 8.1.1 and it's usable, not quite as snappy as 7.1.1 but happy with it and don't plan on going back to 7.1.1.

I'd say it is better than 8.1. I had blank pages when scrolling in Safari but that seems to be fixed now. Typing an URL in Safari is still a bit laggy. Normal typing is fast. Overall performance is OK, I can't remember if IOS 7 was faster.

My iPad 3 (wasn't it officially called "The New iPad"?) is still on iOS 6. I haven't found a good reason to upgrade it. It still does everything we need it to do, and it's running an OS it was actually designed to run. I actually find it refreshing to use the older style UI.

Hmmm, I just discovered that the blank pages problem in Safari isn't solved after all. I spoke too soon I guess.

Ok so i just updated my iPad 3 to 8.1.1. From what I'm seeing the speed is about the same as 7.1.1. You can even say it's a little faster since iOS 8 inherently has shorter animations compared to iOS 7. Even tho it's about the same speed however, they seem to have done this be reducing the frames per second on the actual animation, allowing a similar responsiveness as iOS 7.1.1 at the cost of choppier animations. Still very usable though.

No, the animations are the same, if they look choppy then it's bad performance. Unless you upgraded from 7.0, that had slower animations.
