iOS 8.2 in a 4s

I recently purchased a slightly used iPhone 4s. When I activated it I was prompted to download/install iOS 8.2 operating system. Is this advisable on this older model and will it help performance wise. My phone is 3 yrs 4 mos. and I would like advice on battery replacement
