iOS 8.3 on iPad 3 WIFI (iMessage problems)

iMessages is extremely sluggish and unreliable. It takes about 15 seconds from I click on a conversation until it shows. Most of the time only the last few messages, or a random recent message, will show. Some times it will show more of the older messages, but it seems most of them are gone for now...

I've closed/opened the app, restarted the iPad several times etc to no avail.

Also, opening the Messages tab in Settings is just as sluggish.

Just me, or does anyone else have similar problems?
