Does anyone know if iOS 8.4 switched over to mDNSresponder like 10.10.4 did. I heard that in the iOS 9 betas it is using mDNSresponder, but I haven't heard anything about iOS 8.4.

I believe 8.4 still uses discoveryd judging by what I see in AirPlay ... the AirPlay device name is appended with a number in parentheses like "Apple TV(3)", which is one of the discoveryd symptoms.

Hopefully we get back to mDNSresponder in something like 8.4.x and not have to wait until 9, and that AppleTV also gets rid of discoveryd (assuming its used there).

It's possible, but probably not that likely given that it seems to be in iOS 9 betas which are being tested, so they probably won't want to throw it into a small iOS 8 update (especially since the same devices will be able to support iOS 9).

Definitely not. If you download an app that shows running processes you will see discoveryd is still there (I did it myself to check).
