iOS IOS 8+ and Wi-Fi Radio API

Does anyone know if Apple has/is moving back in the direction of opening the WiFi radio for application access?

I'm looking at doing a WiFi Analyzer or inSSIDer type app but found that since iOS 4 Apple locked out the developers making use of the unpublished API calls.:eek:

If not, any other ideas? I saw WiSpy has a hardware dongle but the last update to that was like in 2012. Would rather stick current built-in radio capabilities.
