iOS 8 needed space

I know this has probably been discussed here somewhere so sorry. I have 4.2g of space on my iPad and the update says it requires 5.8g. Is there anything I can do without deleting everything? Thanks.

Instead of doing an OTA update, plug it into iTunes and it should update just fine.

On a ota update if I clear space for the update do I regain it after? Thanks. Sorry for being so annoying.

If you clear space, that means you're deleting things or moving them to a computer. You don't get those things back after an update unless you put them back yourself.

iOS doesn't need so much of space for ever. It's just during the installation phase. So yes you would get as much free as space before installation.

It needs the space for unpacking, unzipping and etcetera.
