What I've had trouble determining is if I can jailbreak this ancient device to run any version of iOS 8. It can run like mud, doesn't matter. Does anyone in this forum have any insight? Thanks!

It's not a matter of Apple not allowing it, it's a matter of the device never being designed to run it. You can't install it, you can't run it and there's no jailbreak tweak or app that's going to make something that doesn't exist possible.
