iOS apps never automatically update on my iPhone 12 mini, 12 Pro, SE(2020)... even when updates are from 1 or 2 months ago?

these 3 phones are used daily on both wifi and cellular data.

the automatic downloads/updates for apps in the settings menu are checked on auto....

Any time I have updates, I usually have to manually start the process, even though many others update automatically. I don't know why all of the apps don't update but it has been this way for a long time, at least for me.

I get automatic app updates just fine. I have them enabled on my phone but not my iPad. It seems they happen overnight when the phone is plugged in. About once a week I take a look at what's been updated on the phone, but I almost prefer manual updates to see what needs updating especially for apps and games that may have had big bugs.

I have trained myself to check App Store app updates on a regular basis. Never trusted auto updates and auto downloads.

I would just let them be. The automatic updates require you to have your phone charged (I think more than 50%, but I could be wrong), being plugged in, connected to wifi, and locked. If you use your phone often, it could be that the phone just never have enough time within those conditions to update all the apps. The same thing happens also on Android, when sometimes when I go to the Play Store and suddenly there are like dozens of updates waiting, with many are more than a few days old. But I learn to just let them be. Unless the current app broke, I just pay no attention and let the system update them whenever. :D

I suspect the same conditions as automatic iCloud Backups are needed for automatic app updates to work, but I can't find any Apple documentation about it.
