I have enabled the options "Download iOS Updates" and "Install iOS Updates" on my iPhone SE 2020. On this options screen, it says "Automatically install software updates overnight after they have been downloaded. You will receive a notification before updates are installed. Your iPhone must be charging and connected to Wi-Fi to complete the update." Every night, I plug in my iPhone for roughly 8 hours to charge, and my charging spot is close enough to my Wi-Fi router to get a perfect signal. I also have roughly half of my iPhone storage available. But I NEVER see a notification for automatic updates, and I NEVER get an automatic update. Ever since I got the phone, I have had to update automatically, which I typically notice 2-3 months after the update is released by Apple.

What am I doing wrong?

You’re not doing anything wrong. Most people avoid the automatic updates and installs like the plague but your problem is the first I’ve ever read about.

Just start a download manually before going to bed then the next evening before going to bed, install it manually too. That way you don’t waste hours waiting for it to do its thing.
