I’m trying my hardest to learn another language via DuoLingo, conversations from the web or via status updates done by friends within status updates in WhatsApp.
Although I know and have looked into iOS’ Background App Refresh, and have enabled WhatsApp therein, I’m not able to play a WhatsApp status message in the background then launch Apple’s own Translate App.
There is no ability to enable Translate App within control centre either and it’s not listed in Background Refresh. The app DOES have a microphone for which you can speak into the app and have it translate - that works only within the app itself.
What I’ve read in a similar thread is that Apple’s Shazam app has an option to enable within Control Cente (both in iOS, iPadOS and WatchOS) which enables it to use the microphone in the background to listen to music for identifying the track. This works EVEN if Shazam has NOT been enabled in background App Refresh - since it’s like a service running using a native api but when using Shazam the app if disabled in background app refresh it’ll ask you to enable microphone permissions.
The Translate App has no ability to enable/disable microphone access within Privacy & Security > Microphone. Both apps DO show reported as using the microphone (when launched and ONLY at the time of running therein) and enabled.
Does anyone have a solution or an alternative that WILL work? Preferably I’d like to use native app solutions, unless no bueno.
Ps: nothing vía App Clips either (which showed up in iOS LONv before the mini function of App Clips; a mini version of an iOS app for minimal interaction and use (such as parking payments on meters/lots) that was introduced a few years after.
