In order to achieve a 'bit perfect' stream from an iOS device via airplay, does the volume need to be set to maximum on the device itself? My setup is iOS device => Airport Express using optical out => DAC (no volume control) => integrated amp (with volume control). Or does any of this really matter in terms of sound quality? Any thoughts?
