It looks like, for me, Microsoft has broken the ability to use an Office 365 account in iOS Mail set up as IMAP. Mail stopped coming in 6 days ago.

Deleting the IMAP account and re-adding (using their own instructions) doesn't work. Works fine going through the Exchange protocol but IMAP is a no-go.

I can't find anything new on this. What I do find is a lot of MS pages that are completely fubared when it comes to instructions (instructions don't match what's currently on the pages).

If you're wondering "Why?"…I've utilized being able to move emails from another account to the O365 one via IMAP and you can't do that with Exchange.

Does anyone have any info on how to get IMAP to work again?

Microsoft began enforcing Modern Authentication on 365 accounts last week which will very likely prevent IMAP from working unless your administrators decide to allow it. (Chances are they won't.)

I am the administrator. Two accounts. Meaning I pay for them.

I'm pretty good on tech but really the info they have on this is written for folks that do that kind of thing every day.

Trying to decipher their announcements on this…it seems like it can't be done even by an admin. I may be wrong. If I am I'm not sure I want to monkey around with the security of my stuff.

Not sure if you use an MDM, but if so, you may need to enable OAuth support. We use Workspace ONE, and I had to enable this for all my email profiles. Consequently, each user needed to re-authenticate their accounts.

It's not a simple process, and it may not be an option for an account with only 2 users.

Looks like fun!

I'll probably abandon Mail if I can find another app that:
  • Will let me move email to from another account to folders in the O365 account
  • Doesn't store my emails on a third-party server

Well, you're using Microsoft 365, so your emails are already stored on a 3rd party server, it just happens to be Microsoft's. If you are referring to the iOS Outlook app, it's not storing any mail anywhere other than Microsoft's infrastructure when used with 365 and Exchange Online. Desktop Outlook also does not store mail on anything other than Microsoft's infrastructure.

The iOS Outlook app won't let me move emails from an IMAP account to my O365 one…so no advantages there.
