Has anyone ever seen this? The background of what should be my bookmarks started showing this patterned generic person icon.

Light mode, dark mode, restart multiple
times, new test profile, reset all websites and data, updated to 18.6.1, nothing fixes it.

I can’t even get a good search engine keyword to find answers because everything wants to show me desktop backgrounds or solve missing bookmarks.

I wouldn’t even care except the error image does’t respect dark mode and half blinds me at night.

If anyone has seen this or can point me to a support page I’d be forever grateful.

Did you check the background image settings? It looks like it’s a custom one that you may have accidentally set somehow.

You’re right, that’s 100% it!

I still can’t get the background to revert to “no icon” or to respect the dark mode setting even if/especially if I delete the non-Personal profile. I can’t even change those if only the Personal profile remains!

Thanks a lot for your help I don’t know if I would have gone back to look there.

Update: I don’t know why but I was completely blind to the toggle switch which turned off the custom background image. Fixed!
