I have a dog and let him out 3 times a day to urinate and run around in the backyard, morning afternoon and night.

The dog plays inside and has a ton of entertainment and etc.

However now that I’ll be starting a job further away from home I won’t be able to return home on my lunch breaks or slow hours to let the dog out and grab lunch.

So am wondering if there is perhaps some sort of HomeKit solution maybe that can either allow me to manually open and close a doggie door into our backyard or if something exists out there that the dog can control perhaps with his paw.

The backyard is rather large so it would be a dream for the dog to be able to go inside and outside whenever he wants whether or not I’m home. Cameras are always facing the backyard so I’d get notifications with the door sensors and can always install more if needed.

There are a few WiFi enabled pet doors however they are pricey ($599+ US).

I might at some future point but not at the moment.

There are some automatic ones too, such as these. The door will open when the dog goes near it while wearing a special collar or tag.

Don't think there are any HomeKit ones, but just search for "automatic pet door" or "smart pet door" and you'll see a wide variety of options.
