Hi all,

I don't know does this topic discuss before or not, I just can't find the thread regarding this topic so i decide to post a new thread.

What's the exact way to upgrade a jailbroken iDevice? What i know is

1. Backup your iDevice
2. Restore it

So, what's next ? Press set up as new iphone then jailbreak it?

backup your device using itunes
restore as new (this will install the latest iOS)
backup using itunes (to put all ur apps back in your phone)
go to evasi0n.com website and follow on screen instructions

sadly, i did this and all my apps gone >.< even the orignal apps and my PDF file inside my iBook gone.

i faced the same scare last week when i tried to do this.
however, i opened up itunes, and checked my "last backup" date and time... it was clearly before i did the restore, so i was sure that my device was indeeded backed up... but somehow the backup didnt get transferred to my phone and i panicked for about 15 mins...
i read somewhere that this has happened to few others and that for some, all they had to do was click on "backup device" again... wait for a few mins and then it works fine.. all my apps came back.
just try it again n give it a few mins... it shud come to u.

Be careful what you advise!

It's not
Backup in itunes
Restore as new
backup using itunes

This is the correct way:
Backup in itunes
Restore firmware and setup as new
Jailbreak wit evasi0n
restore previous backup in itunes

If you select backup in itunes again like you said you will overwrite your old backup and will loose all your apps, txt , settings, etc

Do you mean you back up your device again after all the apps are gone? I tried to restore from backup after re-jailbreak my device but it still same, no luck :(

Vote up for this one :D

When it comes to most advice, especially on the net, never trust a single source. Gotta do your research and make sure things check out from multiple sources.

is it? cos thats the way i did it... backup in itunes, restore & setup as new (so SHSH blobs are saved), restored previous backup... and LAST step was jailbreak. nothing went wrong.. or maybe i got lucky...
all's well that ends well. :D

Re-read your original post. What you were suggesting was:

Back up the jailbroken iPhone
Restore
Set up as new
Back up again (i.e. back up the fresh, untouched copy of iOS)

I don't know how you were able to get your settings etc from your pre-restore backup by creating another backup from your fresh copy of iOS.

sorry for the english... here's what i meant to say...

Step 1: Back up the jailbroken iPhone
Step 2: Restore & setup as new
Step 3: Back up FROM itunes (i meant get the stuff back, which was originally backed up in step 1.)
Step 4: Jailbreak

I think what you mean to say is restore previous backup ;)

That is why you need to be careful what you post, people might loose important info, it's nothing to laugh about.

@OP

Try and see if you hit restore from backup if you can select older backups, try scrolling in the box.

unfortunately I only have 1 backup for that iPad which is the latest. I will try to restore it again, and then jailbreak it again after that do restore from backup. Hope I can get everything right this time :(

Better and quicker to do the jailbreak first, than do the restore from backup.

Evasi0n use part of the backup/restore function in itunes, with a large backup that might interfere with a good jailbreak

Does full iTunes manual backup backup the apps? Or I need to transfer purchase then the apps are backed up?

Yes transfer purchases.

How I do it:

Transfer Purchases, copy photos (extra step just in case)
Backup to iTunes
DFU mode restore and set up as new phone
Jailbreak eligible device/OS set up cydia
Restore backup from iTunes
Resync missing apps and media
Install tweaks

Thank you! I think i missed the transfer purchase step that's why i lost all my apps :(
