Updated to 18.7 - don´t want to install iOS26.
Then I updated several apps - without thinking.

Now some apps - e.g. Firefox and Carrot - use the new app icon with this horrendous outline.
Now I have a nice mix desaster on my homescreen. I´m a little upset now.

I thought this outline is created by iOS26 - was I wrong?

oh, that’s surprising. i thought they would only display the new app icons if the device was on ios 26. thanks for the heads up, and sorry that happened.

Not really sure what you mean, have updated both the app and iOS but for me it looks the same. At least I think it is.
Tried both light and darkmode, the icon seem to be the same tho, white background and the firefox logo.

I updated to 18.7 and running the latest version of FireFox and my app badge looks normal..

Thanks for your answer.
I did a workaround with a shortcut to Firefox - so I can live with it.

Another example: bought a normal iPad two days ago - iPadOS 18.5.

Maybe off-topic but Apple forcing you to update the entire OS to get new app features needs to be stopped by law. You should have proper use of your phone as it was when you purchased it and that includes the icons not changing their style.
