What does the green, circled + logo mean when you're entering a new Contact?

At first, I thought it denoted an infinitely expanding field like Phone (so
you can have more than one phone number). But fields like Email and URL also
expand to accommodate multiple entries, and they don't have the green +...

If you can't figure it out, I'll ask Apple, but I'm stumped!

Right, I know the green + logo lets you have multiple entries but if you look at the Email and URL fields they ALSO let you have multiple entries and they don't have the green + logo.

So is there a specific purpose for the +?
