I have an iPhone 4 running ios5. I know people are waiting for the untethered jail break option but is there an advantage to it compared to jail breaking via tethering?
and is there any "how to guide to using cydia? I'm just in it for custom lay out the the ability to use flash.

Untethered jailbreak allows for rebooting normally without having to use a computer.

Tethered jailbreak requires you to run the jailbreak program in order for you to reboot your phone. So if you use a tethered jailbreak and have to reboot for some reason, your phone will be useless unless you can get to a computer.
