Today I wanted to install iOS5 on my iPad2. After connecting it to my MBP, I got a popup that said I should transfer content that was bought on the iPad before installing or I would lose the content. So I backed out, went up topside and selected "transfer purchases from iPad". In addition to some apps, I have 2 rental movies that I wanted to watch on a flight in about a week from now. As far as I could tell, the 2 movies did not transfer, nor did it really want them to.
However, rather than lose them before screening, I backed out of the iOS5 upgrade until I watch the movies.
IF I had just gone ahead with the iOS5 upgrade, would the 2 movies really have disappeared from my iPad? Rather than wait a a week, I may just go ahead and proceed. I can always rent them again. Hidden cost of doing business with Apple.
