I finally decided to update my iPod touch to IOS5 today. Backed it up, proceeded to update. It failed to restore the backup. No matter how many times I restore it now, I get a brand new empty iPod. It had over 2000 songs that I had sorted and rated from over 5000 songs I had listened to and filtered to come down to what was starting after 2 years to be quite a solid library. I still have all the songs on CD and hard drives, but I have to start all over again. I'm about to shoot myself.

When I updated my iPod touch 3G to iOS 5.1.1 (it was on iOS 4.2.1), I right-clicked on the iPod icon in iTunes and clicked Transfer Purchases before proceeding with the update. My iPod touch had everything on it, even my Doddle Jump high score :).
