Hey,

I typically action my update via iTunes but this time I will not have access to my iTunes.

So I'm considering doing my iOS6 update to iOS7 update on the 18/9/13 via OTA.

I'm not a developer on any beta version.

Question is : Update to iOS 7 via OTA.

By carrying out the software update via OTA, has anyone any idea how long an update via this route takes, or is it the same as via iTunes ?

Thaks.

iOS 7 will Not be OTA. You have to install it using iTunes.

You do know he said he wants to update OTA on the 18th ?

Usually OTA update is similar to itunes update but OTA probably will have the file size a bit smaller.
But people on here recommend you do a clean install of the software, for the junk that is present on the previous iOS to be cleared out.

Serious ? you have any idea why ?
we have been doing ios updates ota for the past 6 years....

iOS updates for the same version yes. Like 6.0 > 6.0.1 > 6.1.3 > 6.1.4

But I'm almost certain you can't do 6.1.4 > 7.0 (I may be wrong..let me search again).

I can't remember how long it took to update to iOS 6 but I did mine during lunch while using the library's Wifi. So less than an hour. Make sure you have a car charger if you're doing it like this.

Maybe you're right but I just don't recall a big update like that ever happening OTA for me

I did my iOS 6 update from 5.1.1 OTA ;)

Looks like i've opened a small can of worms here !

I'm hoping I can update to iOS7 vis OTA !

OTA should be an option as it's been the case since iOS 5 introduced it.

I guess I was wrong. I usually did mine through iTunes if they were major updates

I also try to do mine through iTunes, I just recall being at work at AT&T when the update was available and I did OTA for iOS 5 to 6. I imagine iOS 7 will be available OTA though.

iOS 6 was updated OTA. I know because I did it.

But to answer the OP's question, it's a big update so it should take a bit of time. The servers also might go down because so many people will be updating at once.

Of course OTA will be available on the 18th the only people that can't use OTA will be users still running the Beta and have to Option-Update or DFU-restore to the GM version (public release) :D

20 mins OTA via wifi while plugged in to AC adapter when I did iOS 5 > 6.

I doubt the upgrade experience will change much with this update.
