When will the support for ipad 1 drop? Next refresh or before out of curiosity?

It may get iOS 6, but if it does it will run it very slowly. Out of the four A4 devices, it is the most underpowered of them all. The large screen along with 256Mb of ram really hurt it.

No one knows at this point in time, all we can do is guess and hope that Apple previews iOS 6 in June during WWDC and lists compatible iOS devices.

If they do what they did with the 3GS it will get IOS6. Probably after that won't get IOS7.

Doubt it will make it slow I know IOS4 never worked great on the 3GS but reports about IOS5 on the 3GS seem better.

3Gs = 3.0>4.0>5.0>EOL

iPad 1 = 3.2>4.2.1>5.0>?

Both are already on their third major iOS update. Unless the 3Gs is getting iOS 6, the iPad 1 is probably not going to get it.

A key could be Apple are not selling the Ipad 1 now just Ipad 2 as the entry model. I think the 3GS only got IOS5 as it was staying for another year.

The 3Gs got iOS 5 because the iPhone 2G and 3G got a total of three major iOS versions as well. Apple's just keeping the number the same across the iPhone line. We have yet to see how the iPad line will work as iPads come out later in the iOS release cycle, but with next generation hardware.

Apple still sells iPhone 3GS, so it's unlikely that it will be EOL anytime soon.

But only in the US. While the 3Gs' hardware is a major increase in specs from the iPhone 3G, it may not be enough for Apple to include it with the iOS 6 devices.

Nice point.

Apple doesn't sell things running outdated software, especially something as big as the iPhone 3GS. It's the FREE iPhone, and very popular still! That would be a very bad move that wouldn't completely make sense.

wondering when the A5 and A5x won't be good enough anymore for the latest and greatest iOS. Meh by that time I'll probably have sold it for the newest of the new new iPad ;)

Why are people assuming that the 3GS will stay once iOS 6 is released, along with the next iPhone? The 3GS will be eliminated and the iPhone 4 will take its place and become the free phone, the 4S becomes the discount phone like the 4 is now, and the new iPhone takes the 4S' current slot. Hence, iPhone 3GS won't receive iOS 6. It's not that hard to figure out...

I'm sure the people who bought the 3GS this year will feel great about that. :rolleyes:

It will be supported with new softwares for at least 1 year after the last device is sold. It might not have all the features, but it'd make people mad to eol their new phone. Wouldn't help that halo effect that Apple relies upon so much.

I simply don't see how its hardware could keep up. It would have to be a pretty minor update.
