Hey folks,

I own an iPad 10th Gen and I’m trying to get a full-screen display on a portable monitor.

I don’t have the iPad going directly into the monitor since I require a docking station that contains Ethernet, USB-C video output, and Power Delivery. The docking station is connected to the iPad, and I’m using a USB-C to USB-C cable from the docking station to the monitor. The monitor recognizes the signal, but the display appears squished or scaled incorrectly, including the app icons. Only a couple of times has it displayed normally, but I’m not sure why that happens. The monitor has a very limited OSD menu, so there are no options for scaling or overscanning.

If you’re interested in taking a look at the monitor, docking station, and USB-C to USB-C cable I’m using, here are the links:

USB-C cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09G2DHFNW?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1

I also tried connecting the iPad directly to the monitor using the same USB-C cable, but I’m seeing the same issue.

Does anyone know why it’s not displaying full screen? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The 10th gen iPad doesn’t have proper external display support.

You will need an iPad Pro (M1, M2, M4) or an iPad Air (M1, M2, M3)

Thanks for the response. While it doesn’t have proper external display support, I'm not sure as to why the aspect ratio of the 10th Gen not display well on a external monitor that supports it. I could understand using an external monitor that wouldn't support that aspect ratio.

Sure thing. I've enclosed 2 screenshots, "Squished" and the "Correct" display. Thanks for your help.

Seems like the monitor can detect the 16:9 signal correctly. Try to find if there's any "Aspect ratio" setting in the OSD menu, there should be some options such as Auto, 16:10, 4:3.

Unfortunately, there is no Auto, 16:10, 4:3. Very little OSD features. The question remains, why does it on occasion, forces the correct display size and other times, it's squished.
