All 3 devices had 256MB RAM.
But I will best guess Apple will make the iPad 1st generation and the ipod 4th generation run very smooth when iOS 5 comes out but the iPhone 3GS will be crippled (like the iphone 3g with iOS4).
Despite all 3 having the same exact RAM, Apple will "tweak" the A4 processors of the iPad and iPod touch 4th generation while leaving the 3GS processor alone.
We all know Apple probably downclocks the A4 processor and it run less than it's normal 1GZ supposely speed. It's hard to guess, but by many rumors, the iPod touch 4th gen runs about 700-800mhz and the iPad runs close to 1GZ. The iPhone 3GS runs close to 600 mhz.
So with a little tweaking (at expense of battery life), Apple can turn the iPod Touch 4th gen processor up to 900 mhz and the iPad to a full 1GZ so it will run iOS 5 very smoothly despite the 256MB RAM while leaving 3GS owners in the dust.
What do you guys think? I think Apple wants their iOS devices to have about a 2 year life span of full support. So that leaves the soon to be 3 year old iphone 3GS the odd device out. The iPhone 4 obviously will continue to have full iOS5 support since it has 512MB RAM and the same A4 processor.
