Ooened it up and has a black streak with red and green lines in it. Out of warranty by 35 days.

iPad 1st gen screen problem

Was the iPad subject to any form of trauma? If I were you, I'd take it to the Apple store immediately. A couple of years back my 1st gen iPod touch developed screen issues when it was out of warranty by a similar amount of time. I took it to the Apple store down in London and they swapped it for me on the spot
