1. I have an HTC Hero android phone. Can I link it to the ipad2 to download data? (thus saving my needing to buy the 3G model)
2. Can one transfer data from the iMac directly to the iPad2 using usb?
3.If I bought the ipPad2 3G model could I use it as a (rather unwieldy and impractical) iPhone?

I apologise if some/all of the questions seem a little dumb!

Regards,

Richard

1. I don't believe the hero has hotspot capabilities, so no. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

2. Yes, but you don't have access to the filesystem unless you jailbreak it so you'll load content into it through iTunes.

3. You can use apps to make calls over wifi or 3G such as skype, etc but not a phone as in "get a phone number from AT&T on the sim card and use the phone app."

Also no such thing as a dumb question. It's important to be informed before making a big purchase.

The #1 point is partially true, but not for the faint of heart.

No, natively the Hero does not have mifi hotspot capabilities. But, unlocking the phone does allow to install Google's mifi sharing app. My Hero is unlocked and provides 3G to my iPad and it works really well, but it took a while to figure out how to do it.
