I have an iPad 2--purchased the day they came out. Over time, the charging port became more finicky. At first, I'd have to wriggle around the plug to get it to make charging contact. Now, it won't charge unless I wrap rubber bands around the whole iPad to hold it snug. This happens with several different cables. This means I can no longer use it while it's charging.
At an Apple store, they said they couldn't repair it, and were dubious whether anyone could. They did say they would replace it (64gb AT&T) for $250. I found one tech who said he'd fix it for $169, which is not that much cheaper than the replacement, and online sites that would do it for $90.
Anyone do this successfully, and with whom?
But I'm not sure whether I'd want to out a lot of money into it. I could convince myself that after 4 years it's time for an Air.
I was also wondering if there might be a cable that would have a particularly snug fit into the charging port. Exist?
Thanks.
