iPad ipad 2 display bad - what to replace now?

My iPad2 will not display anything; the screen is continuously black. I have replaced the display and the display ribbon cable. I know the ipad works because I can connect it to my pc and sync it. I did accidentally tear the digitizer cable when taking it apart. Is the digitizer cable required to make the display work? What else should I try replacing?

Can you get new one from Apple replacement program? Might get an Ipad 3!!!
