my in-laws dropped their ipad2. it was in a case and didn't fall too far/hard, but enough screw it up somehow. if it is asleep and you wake it up w/the front button, all that happens is the screen goes from black to a barely lit dark, dark solid grey. can't reboot because the screen won't display the off switch. my last resort is letting the battery drain completely, recharging it and getting a reboot out of it that way. any suggestions, or is it toast?

I'd try to find an iPad repair shop before calling it toast. Or, send it to Apple for repair.

Apple will charge the price of a refurb iPad 2 if it needs repair. Not worth it IMO. I'd rather drop the $200-250 towards an Air 2.
