I've been testing out the Find My iPhone app for my iPad 2 (AT&T 3G). I have cellular data turned on but have not subscribed to AT&T's data service. GPS is working. Back home on my own wifi network, me.com can locate my iPad 2.

Sitting in the public library, I have my iPad 2 connected to the library's Wifi network. On my computer, I login to me.com to see if I can locate the iPad 2 and it can't. It made me think that perhaps the library's wifi system is not allowing me.com to backtrace to get to the iPad 2. Do you think that's happening?

I don't plan to buy cellular data service on the iPad 2 except maybe once a year for a month so am I screwed that Find My iPhone isn't going to work unless I buy cellular data?

Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if that connection was firewalled at some point. But unfortunately no, Find my iPhone doesn't work without a data connection.
