Ipad 2 GSM SIM question

hi,
has anyone tried to use a SIM card from a carrier other than AT&T?

It seemed pretty settled before today that they wouldn't be locked, however I would really like to have confirmation of this from someone. I'm planning on crossing over from Canada to pick one up tomorrow and would very much like our 3G providers' sim cards to work. I'm just hoping they have sufficient store stock for tomorrow as well...
