I am deploying soon and was curious if the GSM iPad2 is carrier locked or can I use a foreign sim card in it for data? Thanks

iPads aren't locked to a carrier. You should be able to use the GSM model with any carrier worldwide that offers an iPad data plan. You should check out the carriers in the country(s) you are going, as carrier policy about selling data plans to foreign visitors differ from country to country.

Thanks. Anyone have any experience with this in eastern asia? (Thailand, Singapore, Bahrain, Okinawa)?

Japan is tricky. Last I checked, they didn't allow foreigners to sign up for data plans. Don't know anything about other countries, hopefully someone else will be able to provide info!
