Anyone planning on going to the South Hills Apple store on launch day. I am trying to decide what to do?

I am looking to get the 64 gb wi-fi black. I also took the day off and thinking about getting there when the mall opens to scope out what is going on and then if there is not a line already, heading over to Best Buy to see what the plan is there for the day.

I have been told that the store will close at 3 pm to prepare for the launch.

I wonder if there will be any accessories out earlier in the day.

Your pretty much along the same lines of thinking as me. I intended to head up around 8 or 9 to scope out the situation. Hopefully there will only be a couple people there and if so I would probably head back home and come back around 11 or Noon. If there are already a dozen or more I guess I'll be staying.

Yea I'm guessing that although it be cool to snatch up a black leather smart cover in the morning, that Apple won't have that stuff out till 5.

Thanks for the info on the store closing at 3. I had not heard that.

South Hills Village Mall, Pa

Anyone going to be there ? I need a scout. This isn't really too close to me, but if the places by me sell out I'd like to know what the lines are like out there.

I'll be there as I said earlier. I can post to this tread a line count every so often. What else will I have to do? ;)

I will be there as well and would be more than happy to post updates. I plan on arriving around 9 am (mall opens at 10, but to walkers at 8) to see what is going on. I am also going to head to best buy close by to see as well.

I have been to several launches at South Hills and they have been handled differently each time.

I also have called the Apple Store and they did not have a whole lot of information about release day. I will try again tomorrow.

@Sodner, what time are you planning on arriving?

@ RKULPAJR... I will probably be there around 9:30. I took the day off so what the heck.

Post if the BestBuy does something dumb likes start to sell them when they open. ;)

In the end my prediction is about 100 people in line at 5 which should basically be emptied out by 6:30.

Thanks. I probably would not even make it out there until 5. I plan on hitting the the Best Buy by Century III Mall first since it is closest.

Broughton rd at rush hour is a nightmare, that is the main reason I want to try and avoid the apple store. I plan on getting a 32Gb Black model. I hope they have plenty. I would think the 16Gb would sell out really quick.

I'll be there!

I'm thinking about getting there around 10 or so when the stores open. This is my first time waiting in line so I really have no idea what time to get there. I want the black 16GB wifi so I should probably be there pretty early.

Does anyone know if they hand out numbers or something a little closer to 5pm? Also, are you able to get out of line and leave your stuff to get something to eat in the mall or should I pack a lunch?

This will be my 4th launch at the Apple Store at South Hills. They have all been different but a few things have been the same:

1. People in line has always been cool about letting you leave to go get something to eat or to use the restroom. As long as you are not disappearing for hours at a time it should not be an issue.

2. They have never handed out tickets for items. It is first come first served.

3. The Apple Employees sometimes will walk through the line to ask what you are buying and make sure they have the stock. This does not guarantee that you will get what you want, but does increase the chances.

This is my first launch that is at 5 pm so I am unsure how the lines will be. I know for the iPhone 4 and the iPad launch I arrived at the mall around 5 am and for the iPad there were only about 10-15 people there. For the iPhone 4 there were well over 150 people there at that time.

I am hoping to get there at 9 am but I have a 1 hour drive and there may very well be some snow coming tomorrow night into Friday. I now think that I am just going to wait to purchase it at the Apple Store and not even try Best Buy. There is just something about buying a product at the Apple Store.

Man after seeing those reviews I am so ready!!!! :D

SHV Apple Store here I come!!

32 GIG black with black leather smart cover, come to Papa!!

See you all in line!!! Snow may affect my arrival time slightly but I will be there even if I have to walk.

Going to the Shadyside Apple store sometime after work. I'm getting a 64GB 3G (AT&T), so I'm hoping that they won't be sold out. I'm guessing that the expensive models are slower sellers. Don't have a color preference until I hold the models in my hand.

The real winner: my daughter who gets my iPad 1.0 hand-me-down

The Best Buy in Monroeville told me that even if they tried to sell you an iPad before 5 (which they won't), it'll ring up as $10,000.

With the predicted snow fall good thing your not waiting in line there. At least I'll be in a mall, warm and cozy.

Precipitation, but temps above freezing. As long as it's not sticking to the roads, I don't mind.

Not keen on waiting in line. Don't need one that badly. Last year I walked into the Chicago Magnificent Mile store at 3pm launch day and bought my 64GB WiFi with zero wait. Would be nice to have a similar experience.

Here's the Shadyside meetup thread...post updates to it tomorrow!

Will be in about 30 min

I'll be leaving shortly and be there before 10. No sense sitting here on a soft couch watching ESPN when I can be standing in line at a mall. ;)

Be horrible to show up at say noon, see like 60-70 people in line, wait 5 hours only to be told, sorry we already sold out of the model you wanted!

Alright here is the deal. There are three people in front of me. The rent-a-cops (mall security) are already being jerks. Do not bring chairs with you--not allowed to have them. We are bit allowed to sit on the floor either. It will be a long, but fun day here at south hills village.

Here too!

Thanks guys. I'll check back around 3 then 4. I still plan on hitting up the best buy by century III. Plan on getting a 64 wifi.
