iPad 2 Locked To Orange

According to the woman in my local Orange shop I can only use an Orange SIM card in it if I buy an iPad2 from them. Is that true?

I know if I get on from the Apple Store I can use any network's SIM

Yes, same as mobile phones, the networks lock them to their own networks as they subsidise the cost of the ipad via the monthly payments, you can get it unlocked though, either through a third party or paying the network
