I have an iPad 2 with wifi and I would like to use it as a GPS navigation device. My truck doesn't have a navigation system and I had 4.3" Garmin but I was thinking the iPad with that huge screen would be great to use.

I know I will need an external GPS receiver and an app for this to work.

So any recommendations?

On receivers? Apps? Both? There are a lot of threads on the apps. Not so sure about receivers.

To get GPS on a non 3G/4G iPad you'd have to buy so much extra stuff it not worht it IMO. You'd have to buy a bluetooth connector to or something to transmit a GPS signal, jailbreak, get apps, tweak apps in cydia.

You can go that route, but if you want GPS on an iPad your betting off getting a cellular version and avoiding tons of non sense. Again, other do it and it works for them, but IMO I'd rather not have my iPad have GPS abilitiesif i had to connect a bunch of stuff just to get it running.

Good luck in which eve rmethod you choose!

I'm sure there are others, but this receiver works great. Just plug and play, no jailbreaking, no muss, no fuss (I think it even makes julienne fries :) )

BTW, it appears to be cheaper on Amazon than on the bad-elf website:
