I am thinking there is a possibility that the second generation of iPad will not have a wifi-only option, and they will all be wifi and cellular connection...(not that there is anything wrong with this)

Am I wrong, what do you think?

I don't think that anything will change. Apple will still offer wifi only models. There are some countries, like China where the 3G cannot be sold.
Even if Apple did what you are saying, I wouldn't mind.

What is making you think this? Do you have a reason for it or are you just dreaming up possible scenarios for the next iPad release?

Tell you what..............

I would like GPS fitted as standard.

I would of liked GPS but I did not want the cost of the 3G option as I don't need to use my iPad for web browsing out and about.

I thought it was a shame they did it like that.

I imagine it's because they can take advantage of A-GPS and not wait for the GPS satellite lock before displaying anything useful.

From a scale of manufacturing and stocking point of view it would make sense really to only have one model.

Then to be able to pay more to activate different parts within the unit.

I could see this happening, but not for many years yet.

Well, it could happen. Back in the day (before PCs), there were a lot of computers that would ship with some features disabled that a technician could "field enable" by moving a few jumper cables. It was just cheaper to manufacture everything the same.

Why would Apple do it? Well, it might reduce some manufacturing costs (but not by much, as Apple needs to pay license fees on several of the 3G related components). Apple does hate SKU bloat, so this would let them trim down the number of different iPad products.

It would be nice to hit the App Store and buy a Sprint, AT&T or Verizon 3G enabling App -- but that may be a few years out.

well, if it stays at 499$ with 3G, I will be happy
I just like the 3G one because of the GPS, it makes it feel like "The whole deal"
