Members of macrumors, I need some advice. I did a search looking for this problem but couldn't find the answer. I searched screen problems, line screen, line problem, wake up problem, etc., but I couldn't find the answer so I was hoping someone could give me some advice.

Today, my iPad 2 (bought in september 2011) developed a weird screen problem where a straight line just runs across the screen (horizontally). My searches kept coming up with iPad 3 sceen problems and light bleed problems, which I think do not relate to my issue. Here is what my iPad looks like:

Initially, the problem went away after a minute so I decided to keep using it to see what would happen. Well, I wouldn't be posting this if the problem didn't return. It seems like its permanent and here to stay. What should I do?

If the links disappeared, I can't repost them...

Get apple to exchange it under warranty.

Thanks for your advice. I just did a much broader search on google and found some results from apple that dated back to the first iPad. It seems like this line problem can randomly appear on any generation. That's kind of scary.

Now I'm thinking should I buy apple care for my iPad... Do many people buy apple care for their iPads? (this is just a general question)

If the line is always there and stays in the same place even when the screen is rotated it sounds like an LCD panel failure and should be replaced under warranty.

I bought have always bought Apple care and now Apple care+

However a lot of people think it is a waste of money.

It extends the phone support from 90 days out to two years so my relatives get to call Apple for help instead go me.
It extends the warranty out for two years so if the device starts to flake out for any reason I get a new looking one and that helps tremendously with resale value.
It also always me to get a working replacement by mail Before I have to return the broken one.
I also am allowed two "ah crap" moments for when friends or children trash it by accident. Like dropping it.
Yes I know there is a deductible but it's a small price to pay to save a friendship.
