I'm thinking of buying an iPad 2 (3G) from the apple refurb store - I recently had a mini but sold it because I thought the screen was too small - anyone find the 3G useful even if they have an iPhone? Is it silly to buy a devote two years into its cycle - it is right in my budget.

3G is one of those things that is pointless until you need it. I use a MiFi unit to get around that (shared around multiple devices), though I do slightly regret not spending the extra for a SIM card equipped Mini.

I'm in a market where getting a SIM card without committing to a contract is easy BTW.

Right now the iPad 2 with 3G is only $30 more than the WiFi-only model on the refurb store. I would say go ahead and get it.

Even if you never activate the cellular service you do at least get GPS functionality.
