DigiTimes reports that Apple's suppliers for the new 2048x1536 display expected to appear in the iPad 3 have been slow in ramping up their production of the component, with low supplies potentially hindering Apple's ability to move into high gear on device assembly until the second quarter of the year.
Apple may not unable to ramp up the supply of its next-generation iPads (iPad 3), which are expected to be launched at a company event on March 7, due to insufficient supply of high resolution displays, according to industry sources in the supply chain.

Although Apple has chosen Sharp to replace Chimei Innolux (CMI) as one of its three suppliers for the high resolution (QXGA) panels - in addition to LG Display and Samsung Electronics, the whole supply chain has failed to substantially ramp up the supply of QXGA panels, the sources revealed.

Early shortages have become par for the course for Apple's iOS device launches, with shipping estimates for new orders generally extending out weeks for up to several months after the products' debuts. Shipping estimates for the iPad 2 quickly ballooned to 4-5 weeks just as the device launched, taking over four months to become free available for immediate shipping.

Because of the relative scarcity of retina displays compared to the huge demand for the iPad 3, if you can't get one online, you'd better stand in line the first day to get one or you'll be waiting until late April.

(There have been shipping delays in the past for people who ordered online - so the only sure way to get one when it launches is to camp out or stand in line)

In a hurry to get this article up?

So, what DigiTimes is saying is that, initially it will be hard to get an iPad?

Good work DigiTimes...

Everyone should expect supply constraints just from the massive demand that will inevitably follow an Apple product launch. Hopefully the display won't make it any worse than it usually is.

Gosh the English in this article is awful.

Yeah digitimes is the best rumor site.
I also got a scoop on the newest rumor saying the ipad3 will actually have a upgraded cpu. Sources said its unknown what it is, but its better.

Real Shortage or planned shortage? Hmmm...

Start lining up now peeps...

Arn, please stop posting Digitimes baits. Their - write anything, something of it can be true - journalism is just ridiculous.

Meh... I'll get it when I get it...

Nothing's that urgent in life when you thing about it. Paramedic, firefighters, ER, sure... Getting my first iPad on the first day, not so much.

Why stand in line?

I'll put my order in online and wait for it from the comfort of my home.

I read: price increase :(

It seems MacRumors has been bought out by DigiTimes and is now just a puppet link site.

How "available" was iPad 2 at launch? Wasn't it at short supply for a while as well?

Is it coincidence or can we also see how the glare has been significantly reduced in the new screen? Not that reducing glare from current ipad screens would be very difficult, but....drool..
