iPad 3 Out of Memory

Recevied Error Message:
Not Enough Memory
THis iPad cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage avaialble. You can manage your storage in Settings.

When I select settings, nothing happens. When I select close, nothing happens. So I held down the power button and got the screen that asks me to slide to power off but it does not recoginize when I slide.

Not sure what else I can do...but need to get into settings to lower the memory usage.

Any ideas on how to get past this?

Try holding down both power and home buttons together until the iPad shuts off.
