I think the "lack of back" is their attempt at making it look razor-thin. Because apparently Apple has found a way to print all their components on paper and just glue them to the back if the glass.
 
Looks like they printed the whole thing off onto a piece of paper and badly stuck it onto a box. Look at the edges. If I recall my iPad 2's packaging was a LOT neater than that. Plus the picture of the iPad on the front looks low quality. That might just be the photo.

Without a doubt fake.
 
Apple goes to extreme lengths to prevent next-generation devices from being seen by the public. I am only surprised that the engineer who lost the iPhone prototype in a bar is still alive.
