Got my iPad for 1 week now and have not downloaded anything significant. Maybe 7 apps and I transferred 320 songs from my iPod touch.

It now shows that I have 19gb remaining storage available.:eek:

Where did that 12GB go?

One tip to save space - enable the 128-bit converter in iTunes to only transfer reduced audio files to the mobile device. If you're just using headphones, you won't notice a bit of difference in the quality. And it doesn't modify your original iTunes files at all - just transcodes on the fly during sync. (First time takes a long time).
