Seen articles of iPhone battery being replaced onsite at Genius Bar. Is it the same for iPad? "the new iPad" in particular.

Find it troublesome to have the unit swapped.

I'm not sure but mine was completely swapped out last week. I'd back up your unit just in case.

I would prefer to have it swapped out. Don't trust the process of opening up an iPad and putting it back together in-store. I'd rather have a refurb unit that's been through the process back at a real factory.

My iPhone 5 got battery replaced onsite and it seems fine to me.

iPad batteries are a pain in the butt to replace. I would assume it would be swapped for another iPad.

Yes, I have a third gen replaced at the 14th street store. It was a bit of a pain to restore the data with the backup, but I got a fresh unit.
