iPad IPad 4 with lastest firmware cannot sync with lion

Hi I have sold the iPad 4 with lastest firmware install to a guy with lion and non update itune see on his imac. He complaint that the iPad 4 doesn't sync and setup when it was connect to his imac. Will there be any issues if he didn't update his imac?

I think all he needs with latest iTunes. I know people with Snow Leopard and no issues with their iPad 4
