Hello all,

Last night I bought an Ipad 64gb, but when I turned it ON it only had 57.2gb available to me. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or not?

TIA!

Hello all,

That's because the preloaded stuff that apple puts on the iPad takes a few gigs.

Thank you all four you replies, But I still think something is either wrong or software controlled, the 32gb endup with 28gb available but the 64 loses 6.8gb? why the difference between 32 and 64? anyways I'm happy with my Ipad.. just wondering.:D

It has to do with the math. When capacity is advertised it is at 1000 MB = 1GB. However, the system uses binary which is 1024 MB = 1 GB. That is why there is a difference and the formatted capacity is lower than what is stated. Both iPads come with the same stuff loaded...

To Apple (and most HD manufacturers), 1GB = 1000MB, but to iOS (as well as Windows, but not OS X) 1GB = 1024MB. So that 32GB iPad is seen as 31.25GB by the OS before the OS or included apps are installed. The 64GB model is seen as 62.5GB by the OS, again before anything has been installed.
