iPad Air 2 dead?

iPad Air 2 running 8.1.1

I had mail open and was deleting all my mail in one account. I don't know what I did but the screen image changed. The font is bold and a little fuzzy. I turned it off. Now I can't turn it on. I don't hear the click when I open the smart cover. When I plug in the charger I don't get the 'ding' but the battery charges.

I connected it to my PC and iTunes 'saw' it. So I did a full backup to the PC.

Is there a hard reset procedure?

Press and hold down both the power and home buttons until the screen goes blank and the Apple logo appears. If that doesn't work you might want to get it looked at. If there is a problem, it's covered under warranty.

Is it too late to get it exchanged where you bought it from?

Guess I had not been holding the buttons long enough. It seems to be working now. Thanks.

I bought it direct from Apple. I was afraid the closest Apple Store was in LA. Turns out there is one 'only' 50 miles away. Will keep that in mind for the future.
